Health & Social Care - Apprenticeship

This qualification is suitable for anyone working in the care industry that might have no previous experience, or they might be working in care and want recognition for their current skills. It is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. You can choose a pathway that suits your role - for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia.

To achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) the learner must complete 46 credits these are made up of mandatory units and optional unit that the learner will choose themselves by completing a skill scan of their job role.

The learner must have completed there workplace induction course prior to starting there apprenticeship along with mandatory courses to start working in the industry.

The different pathways are:

  • Generic Pathway
  • Dementia Pathway
  • Learning Disabilities Pathway

This qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce. This qualification confirms competence in these areas for roles such as:

  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in community and primary care environments
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in acute health environments
  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in domiciliary services
  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in day services
  • Support workers in supported living projects
  • Community-based care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas e.g. dementia, learning disabilities
  • Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families
  • Emerging new types of workers and multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models.

It is anticipated that learners will progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF), or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work. This wide-ranging Diploma covers the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.

As a part of the apprenticeship, the learner also gains functional skills at Level 1 in Maths and English, Certificate in Preparing to work Adult Social Care, and Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
